Some insurance companies will only cover Mounjaro for patients who have it prescribed for Type 2 Diabetes. Some insurance companies or plans will cover right away, others may require “Step therapy” (ex: ask if you have tried Metformin yet first and failed on it). Some may request a Prior Authorization. It may be due to pricing negotiations that the insurance company has worked out with various pharmaceutical manufacturers in similar classes of drugs, or due to Mounjaro not yet being “in their formulary.”
